FG technology is 'one to watch'

FG technology, a part of the FREM Group and provider of intelligent IT and furniture solutions, has been hailed as the ‘One to Watch Company’ in the recent Green IT Awards for its simply brilliant innovation that will help people make significant savings and help reduce CO2 emissions. The awards took place to coincide with ‘world earth week’ last month, to recognise those who have made a significant contribution to improving the IT industry’s environmental performance.

FG technology, a Planet Positive certified business, specialises in integrating desktop technology into furniture using a patented remote controlled system. The company was presented with its prestigious award by Catalina McGregor, Green IT Liaison Officer at the United Nations, named recently by Computer Weekly as one of the most significant drivers of Green ICT in the western world.

So, how does it work? FG technology’s unique solution means that PCs can be stored away from the user, significantly reducing the heat output in the room. Heat generated by a room full of PCs is considerable and locating them away from the work station leads to substantial reductions in the use and costs of energy-sucking devices like air conditioning. This has been proved to save a considerable 1100KW per PC per annum.
The invention also encourages PCs to be turned off over night with the press of an ergonomically placed button. A study by Symantec showed that this could save a further tonne of carbon per two PCs per year.
With recent findings proving that the UK wastes 1.5 billion KWh and £180 million a year in energy from idle computers, FG technology provides a pioneering solution only available through the FREM Group. The technology can be seen in general Oofice desking, boardroom tables and high-end bench systems at the London Showroom.
