Haworth invites the whole village


Haworth UK turned its showroom into a traditional English village during the three-day Clerkenwell Design Week festival exhibiting new products, Kiron desk system, System 59 office chair, and Very chair. The showroom was carefully redesigned for the event to promote the different styles of activity based working within the village setting.

Imperial performing well

The second quarter of 2010 saw Imperial’s strong sales performance continue alongside the ongoing product development and marketing programme.
Product news: new product launch of the 2010 Reunion Table Range which now features a new tilt-top table mechanism with an extended choice of top sizes 600 and 800 deep for all reconfigurable tables. Sirius Fast Track - a five working-day lead time offer on the most popular items in beech, stone oak or Canadian maple. effex r8 - the 2010 upgrade to Imperial’s popular Effex range featuring both cantilever and I leg frames.


Project news: the first major project in the new effex r8 system was won in the face of strong competition in partnership with Style Office.
Marketing: the new Sirius brochure has been well received by Imperial’s dealers and in production for summer release is the new Qudos brochure.
A new venture for Imperial: the buyers’ guide with dealer overprint options is in production – also look out for the new web site going live in June.

Kinnarps’ CEO awarded top honour

On 8 June, Kinnarps’ CEO Henry Jarlsson was awarded the Order of the Seraphim’s band from the Swedish King Carl Gustaf XVI. The medal recognises Henry for his “significant contributions as an entrepreneur and business leader”. Congratulations to Henry for this prestigious award.

Triumph kits out Headley Court

Prince William recently opened new facilities for the armed forces at a new rehabilitation centre at Headley Court in Surrey. This Help for Heroes centre was built using public donations from the Help for Heroes charity.


Triumph is particularly proud to have provided some of the key furniture needed for office support in the facility. Speaking about this work, Andrew Jackson, Chief Executive of Triumph said, “We are very pleased indeed to be part of the Help the Heroes effort in supplying as we did. This is exactly the kind of rehabilitation effort we are delighted to be associated with.”

Women In Furnishing Awards

Tean Dallaway, the group finance director instrumental in reversing the fortunes of the Airsprung Furniture Group, has been named ‘Businesswoman of The Year’ in the first ever Women In Furnishing Awards. The title of ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’ goes to Wendy Shorter of Wendy Shorter Interiors for changing the face of training and qualification standards in the upholstery and soft furnishings sector.


The winners were announced at an awards luncheon held at Furniture Makers’ Hall (on Thursday 3 June) in central London. In addition to the two main awards, a further surprise presentation – a Lifetime Achievement Award - was made to Norma Kerry, md of Parker and Farr.

ABF Europe launches with a bang

ABF Europe held a celebration launch event at The British Embassy Paris on the 3 June. Dealer customers from all over Europe were treated to a feast of music with Gary Johnstone playing his amazing brand of Blues guitar throughout the day. New products unveiled at the launch included the new Punk range of seating and the Kite AVIT presentation unit.

Eurotek opens London showroom

Eurotek used Clerkenwell Design Week to officially open its London showroom where staff came together with suppliers, partners and invited guests to celebrate this event. Ken Fullalove, the long term chairman of FIRA, performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting which was held by Eurotek’s two owners, Executive Chairman Bob Lee and CEO Terry Kuhler to mark the event.

BCFA introduces the Office Furniture Council


The BCFA has introduced the Office Furniture Council. An integral part of the BCFA, previously known as OFFMA, it will provide a strong voice for the industry on commercial matters. The 43 strong membership is expected to grow during 2010 taking advantage of this new opportunity to influence the market.
